Talent, Ore. — A man is in the Jackson County Jail after burglarizing a medical marijuana dispensary in Talent.
Police said a silent alarm went off Sunday morning around 2:30 at Green Valley Wellness off North Pacific Highway.
Police said when they arrived they found smashed windows and 26-year-old Saul Garcia-Cruz. The dispensary’s Chief Operating Officer Peter Gross said Garcia-Cruz was trying to steal edibles.
Police said when they got there Garcia-Cruz ran, but he didn’t get far.
Gross said since marijuana is still federally illegal money dispensaries make from their sales can not be deposited into banks, putting their business at risk.
“The lack of banking makes them very cash heavy businesses and that’s dangerous. The lack of federal oversight of banking, allowing us to have banking, is creating that situation. So as long as there’s a bunch of cash laying around we’re going to be a target,” Gross said.
Gross said they’ll be adding more security measures to their windows.
Garcia-Cruz faces multiple charges including burglary and resisting arrest.
