Chattanooga police confiscated over 20 pounds of marijuana, six pounds of cannabis oil and drug paraphernalia while working with the Chattanooga Fire Department on Tuesday morning, according to a media release.
CFD firefighters extinguished an in-room fire at the Extended Stay America on Airpark Drive and found large packages of marijuana, a box of oil and other items in the room. The room was found unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
CPD narcotics officers retrieved the items, which are now being held at the CPD Property Division, according to the release.
Warrants are active and on file for two suspects in the case.
Extracting oil from marijuana by using butane lighters is a growing trend across the country. The finished product is known as dabs, BHO, crumble and hash oil. The oil is a concentrated form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that produces the user’s “high.” This type of oil contains a higher concentration of THC than is legally allowed in Tennessee.
