A 21-year-old man detained after a fatal shooting in Shelby County Wednesday claimed self-defense and has not been charged in the homicide, but has been charged with marijuana possession, authorities said.
Denzel Jordan currently does not face charges in the shooting death of 25-year-old Jeremy Williams.
Williams was found by police with multiple gunshots wounds on the ground outside of a home in the 5900 block of Pipers Green Lane in an unincorporated section of Shelby County, just west of the Bartlett city limits.
He was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators detained Jordan on the scene and during an interview he told them that the shooting was an act of self defense.
Earle Farrell, a spokesman with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, said in an email Thursday that investigators searched Jordan’s house and found 33 grams of marijuana in a glass jar.
