New drug ordinance adopted in Memphis
A new ordinance regarding drug paraphernalia possession and the use of marijuana was unanimously adopted by members of the Memphis City Council at their Dec. 19 meeting. The ordinance was suggested by Police Chief Dan Kolke at a previous council meeting, when he explained that to write a ticket for marijuana possession, the officer would have to go to the state prosecutor’s office and wait for a warrant. The new ordinance allows officers to write the ticket, take the evidence, arrest the subject and go to court. Money stays with the department, rather than going to the state.
Memphis City Council sets CDBG hearing
The Memphis City Council has will host a public hearing to receive comments regarding Community Development Block Grant funding at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.
