Two teens have has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another teen at a Shelby County apartment complex off Stateline Road Thursday morning.
Jalen Steward, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Nathaniel Banks. David Virges, 18, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact in the homicide, authorities said.
The fatal shooting occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday when Banks, 18, and a friend went to the Ashland Lake Apartments to buy marijuana from the suspects, according to an arrest affidavit.
Banks’ friend told police that during the transaction, they were in their car parked next to the suspects when he saw Steward shoot Banks twice.
Banks was taken by his friend to Methodist Olive Branch Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses gave police a description of the car the suspects were driving. Authorities with the gang unit located the car and Steward and Virges were taken to Olive Branch Police Department for questioning.
In a written
