NORTHFIELD VILLAGE — The Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield Park is urging Northfield Village to prohibit medical marijuana in the village.
Village Council could vote Nov. 8 on an ordinance that would prohibit medical marijuana cultivators, processors and retail dispensaries from locating in the village.
The legislation was on first reading at Council’s meeting Wednesday. Among opponents of allowing the facilities to locate here was the Hard Rock Rocksino, whose attorney Kenneth Fisher said his client “vigorously objects” to the facilities, claiming they would be detrimental to the Rocksino and village.
“My client would be required to incur substantial costs and expensies relative to implementation of additional security, monitoring and enforcement measures to maintain a drug-free environment for visitors and employees,” Fisher said in a letter outlining the objections to the village.
Dispensaries are allowed under Ohio Revised Code Section 3796.29 in response to Ohio House Bill 523, which provides for the legalization and regulation of medical marijuana in Ohio.
But the ORC section also provides that local officials can pass ordinances to prohibit cultivators, processors and dispensaries.
