What might be most surprising about the nearest operating medical marijuana dispensary is that it isn’t so alarming, after all.
While Bethel braces for the opening of a dispensary in the Stony Hill neighborhood, the quiet, similarly sized town of Portsmouth, R.I., is one year into its experience with the Greenleaf Compassion Center, a rough equivalent of the business headed to Bethel.
And while Stony Hill residents, some of whom have appealed the zoning approval granted to Compassionate Care Center of Connecticut, fret over perceived dangers the business may bring to town, this bayside Rhode Island town has not seen those fears realized.
“We really haven’t had issues like people thought might have happened,” said PortsPortsmouth Police Chief Thomas F. Lee.
