MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – New information on a racial discrimination lawsuit at the University of Memphis concerning the police department. A white officer filed a federal lawsuit claiming he is the target of harassment and intimidation by black superiors.
The Local I-Team has uncovered the lieutenant at the center of the complaint has a history of problems with the department.
We first told you about Robert Crout seven years ago. At the time, the University of Memphis Lieutenant was disciplined for ordering an officer to flush marijuana down a toilet, instead of taking the drugs to the evidence room. Now he is at the center of a lawsuit, one he doesn’t want to talk about.
We caught up with Lt. Crout directing traffic on campus. When we asked him about the lawsuit, Lt. Crout responded by saying, “I don’t have anything to say today ma’am.”
According to a federal lawsuit, a white lower ranking officer says Crout harassed and intimidated white and Latino officers. The lawsuit claims during roll call, Lt. Crout called himself ‘the head “n-word” in charge’.
