In 2015, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana. The law approved cannabis oil use for nine medical conditions, including cancer, Crohn’s disease, ALS and others. In 2017, Deal approved an expansion of the program, allowing people being treated for six additional medical conditions to possess cannabis oil.
Efforts to legalize marijuana for medical purposes have failed in the Tennessee General Assembly. But the Joint Ad Hoc Committee on Medical Cannabis has been studying the issue and plans make recommendations that could be considered in the 2018 session.
