MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Cordova High School student was expelled and faces criminal charges after a loaded gun was found in his car.
The investigation began when five students arrived to school late and smelled like marijuana, according to a police report.
An administrator said she called for a deputy to assist her with the issue. Once the deputy arrived, he also detected an odor from the students.
The deputy had probable cause to search the students, according to the report. One student had a package of cigars and another student had a lighter.
They then conducted a search on one of the student’s car. After opening the door, the administrator smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
The deputy searched the vehicle and found a loaded Cobra .380 handgun in the glove compartment.
The report states three of the students admitted to smoking marijuana before school, but they were unaware of the gun in the car. The student whose car the gun was found in allegedly said it belonged to one of the other students,
