NASHVILLE, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Republican candidate for Tennessee Governor Diane Black Thursday defended her husband paying for a lobbyist against medical cannabis.
It was just one of many topics as she sat down for an interview with State Capitol Newsroom reporter Chris Bundgaard.
In the medical cannabis debate on Tennessee’s Capitol Hill, the bill’s sponsor Jeremy Faison has wondered why Diane Black’s husband is paying a lobbyist to fight the measure. The candidate for Governor says it has nothing to do with the drug testing company Dave Black founded.
“I can tell you not at all. Dave is not in the business any longer,” said Rep. Diane Black. “He has a passion for this. He did his dissertation many, many years ago on THC, on marijuana and he is passionate that we make sure that the people of this state of what the true issue is, and that is the money in the big marijuana industry.”
And for now, Representative Black says she would veto any medical cannabis bill as Governor.
